Two Floods in Twelve Years
Waterbury knows high water better than most Vermont towns. In August 2011, Tropical Storm Irene sent the Winooski River into the village, damaging about 220 homes and businesses and flooding the Waterbury State Office Complex. In July 2023, roughly 40 homes and a half-dozen businesses flooded again, mostly in their basements. Flood-resilient rebuilding after Irene kept that second flood from being worse.
For heating and cooling, that history matters. Basement boilers, furnaces and oil tanks are the first things to go under. When Waterbury homeowners replace flooded or aging equipment, we often recommend:
- Wall-mounted ductless heat pumps on upper floors, so your main heat source isn't in the basement. See ductless mini-splits.
- Outdoor units on raised stands or wall brackets, above both snow and standing water
- A professional inspection before you restart any boiler or furnace that was submerged. See boiler and furnace service.
From the Village to Route 100
Waterbury's housing ranges widely. There are walkable older homes in the village near Stowe Street and Main Street, more rural properties in Waterbury Center and Colbyville along the Route 100 corridor toward Stowe, and homes near the Waterbury Reservoir and Little River State Park. Older village homes are often boiler-heated with no ducts, which makes them ideal for mini-splits. Newer homes out of the village often have ductwork and propane, which suits a ducted heat pump with furnace backup.
Waterbury's restaurants, breweries and shops along Stowe Street and Route 100 need dependable cooling in summer too. We install ductless wall units and ceiling cassettes for commercial spaces. See AC installation & repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
My basement flooded. Can I still use my boiler or furnace?
Don't run it until it's been inspected. Water can damage burners, controls, wiring and venting, and that can be dangerous. Call us and we'll check it and give you honest repair-or-replace advice.
How can I make my heating more flood-resistant?
Move as much equipment as you can out of the basement. Wall-mounted heat pumps, elevated outdoor units and elevated controls all help. Many Waterbury homeowners keep a smaller backup system and rely on heat pumps upstairs.
Do you serve Waterbury Center and Colbyville?
Yes. We cover all of Waterbury, including the village, Waterbury Center, Colbyville and the Route 100 corridor.
Do you install AC for Waterbury restaurants and shops?
