24/7 Emergency Heating & AC Repair in Central Vermont

No heat? No cooling? Call 802-522-0818, day or night.

Heating systems don't wait for business hours to break, and in a Central Vermont winter a no-heat night is more than an inconvenience. Pipes can freeze, and so can the people inside. Premier Heating and AC answers emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for everyone. You don't need a membership and you don't need to be an existing customer. If you're in Barre, Montpelier, Berlin or the surrounding towns and your heat pump, furnace, boiler or AC has quit, call us.

24/7 Service for Everyone, No Membership Required

Some HVAC companies save after-hours service for members only. We don't. Anyone who calls gets help. Our maintenance plan members do get priority in line, which is one of the perks of joining, but no one gets turned away for not having a plan.

Emergencies We Handle

  • No heat from a heat pump, mini-split, furnace or boiler

  • Heat pump not heating, blowing cold air, iced over or showing an error code

  • Oil furnace or boiler lockouts, burner failures and ignition problems

  • Propane and natural gas furnaces and boilers that won't light or keeps shutting down

  • Boiler leaks, pressure problems and failed circulator pumps

  • AC or heat pump failure during a heat wave, a real risk for older adults, infants and anyone with health conditions

  • Commercial heating and cooling failures in shops, restaurants and offices

What to Do While You Wait

  1. If you smell gas or propane, leave the building right away and call your fuel supplier or 911 from outside. Don't use switches or phones inside.

  2. If a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, get everyone outside and call 911.

  3. Check the basics: the thermostat batteries and mode, the breaker or service switch, and whether you have fuel in the tank. If you have an oil furnace or boiler, press the reset button only once. Pressing it repeatedly can flood the chamber with oil.

  4. For heat pumps, make sure the outdoor unit isn't buried in snow or encased in ice, and that the indoor filters aren't clogged.

  5. Protect your pipes. Open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls and let faucets drip.

  6. Keep the family warm with safe, approved space heaters. Never use an oven, grill or generator indoors for heat.

How Our Emergency Service Works

  1. Call 802-522-0818. Tell us what's happening, what equipment you have and your town.

  2. We triage. We'll ask a few questions, and we may be able to talk you through a quick fix over the phone.

  3. We dispatch. A tech heads your way with common parts on the truck. We're based in Berlin, a few minutes from Barre and Montpelier. After hours, we typically call you back within 30 to 45 minutes and have a tech on site within 1 to 3 hours whenever we can. Weather, roads and distance affect timing, so we can't guarantee it.

  4. We explain before we fix. You'll know what failed and what the repair costs before we start. After-hours emergency calls have a $250 emergency callout fee, plus the cost of the repair.

  5. We get you back up and running, or set up a safe temporary fix until parts arrive.

Equipment We Repair

  • Cold-climate heat pumps and ductless mini-splits: Daikin, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi, plus all other major brands

  • Ducted heat pumps and central AC

  • Oil, propane and natural gas furnaces

  • Oil, propane and natural gas hot-water boilers

  • Thermostats, controls, condensate pumps and zone valves

Prevent the Next Emergency

Most no-heat calls we get could have been caught at a yearly tune-up: dirty heat pump coils, worn oil nozzles, failing capacitors, weak igniters. A maintenance plan starts at $19.99 a month and includes annual system care and priority scheduling, so you're first in line when the next cold snap hits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a membership to get 24/7 emergency service?

No. Our 24/7 emergency service is open to everyone. Maintenance plan members get priority scheduling, but we help anyone who calls.

What should I do if my heat pump stops working in winter?

Check that the outdoor unit isn't buried in snow or iced over, check the filters, and make sure the breaker hasn't tripped. Switch to your backup heat if you have it. If it's still not heating, call us at 802-522-0818.

My oil furnace stopped. Should I press the reset button?

Press it once. If the burner doesn't start, or starts and quits again, stop and call us. Pressing it repeatedly can pump excess oil into the chamber and create a hazard.

Which towns do you cover for emergency calls?

We cover our whole service area: Washington, Orange and Chittenden Counties in Vermont. That includes Barre, Berlin, Montpelier, Northfield, Waterbury, Williamstown, Randolph, Burlington, South Burlington, Williston, Essex and the towns around them. Not sure if you're covered? Call us.

Do you charge more for after-hours calls?

Yes. After-hours emergency calls have a $250 emergency callout fee, plus the cost of the repair. We'll always tell you the cost before any work begins.

How fast can you get to me in an emergency?

After hours, we typically call you back within 30 to 45 minutes and have a tech on site within 1 to 3 hours whenever we can. Weather, roads and distance affect timing, so we can't guarantee it.
