Heat Pump & Mini-Split Cleaning and Maintenance in Central Vermont
Your heat pump works harder than almost anything else in your house. In Central Vermont it heats from October through April and cools through the summer. Without regular cleaning, dust, pet hair and mold build up on the coils and blower wheel, airflow drops, and you lose much of the efficiency you paid for. Premier Heating and AC offers professional heat pump and mini-split cleaning, plus furnace and boiler tune-ups, for homes in Barre, Montpelier, Berlin and the surrounding towns.

Why Yearly Maintenance Matters
Proper airflow through both your indoor and outdoor units is one of the biggest factors in how efficiently a heat pump runs. Skipping maintenance can lead to:
-
Higher electric bills, as the system runs longer to deliver the same heat
-
Weaker heat on the coldest days, when you need it most
-
Musty or "dirty sock" odors from mold and buildup on the indoor coil
-
Water leaks from clogged condensate drains
-
Early breakdowns of fan motors and compressors
-
Warranty problems. Regular maintenance helps keep your manufacturer warranty in good standing; check your warranty terms for specific requirements.
What's Included in a Premier Deep Cleaning
This isn't a quick filter rinse. Our yearly maintenance includes:
Outdoor unit (condenser)
-
Take apart the outdoor unit for access
-
Clean the coil and straighten the fins
-
Check all electrical connections and components
-
Clear leaves, snow-season debris and anything blocking airflow
-
Check the stand or bracket, the line set and the insulation
Indoor unit(s)
-
Take apart the indoor unit
-
Clean the filters and the blower wheel and fan
-
Clean the indoor coil and sanitize the unit so it blows clean air
-
Flush and check the condensate drain
-
Test operation in heating and cooling modes
We'll tell you if we spot anything that needs attention, like a weak capacitor or a refrigerant issue, before it turns into a no-heat call in January.
Furnace and Boiler Tune-Ups Too
If your home has an oil, propane or natural gas furnace or a hot-water boiler as backup, we can service it on the same visit. Oil burners get a nozzle and filter change and a combustion test. Propane and natural gas equipment gets its burner, ignition, venting and safety controls checked. See furnace service and boiler service.

When to Schedule
-
Late summer to early fall: clean before heating season, so your heat pump is at full output for the first cold snap.
-
Spring: a good time if you use your system mainly for cooling.
-
Heavy-use spaces: homes with pets or smokers, and busy commercial spaces like restaurants, may need cleaning more than once a year.
Between professional visits, rinse or vacuum your indoor filters every month or two, and keep snow and ice clear of the outdoor unit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a mini-split be cleaned?
We recommend a professional cleaning and tune-up once a year. Clean the washable filters yourself every month or two during heavy use.
Why does my mini-split smell musty?
Usually there's mold or buildup on the indoor coil and blower wheel. Rinsing the filter won't fix it. The unit needs to be taken apart, cleaned and sanitized, which is part of our deep cleaning.
Can I clean my heat pump myself?
You can and should clean the filters and keep the outdoor unit clear. The coil, the blower wheel and the electrical checks need a professional with the right tools, so you don't damage the unit.
Do you clean heat pumps you didn't install?
Yes. We service all major brands of heat pumps and mini-splits, no matter who installed them.
What's included in the maintenance plans?
Every plan includes annual system care, priority scheduling and an extended labor warranty on new installs, if purchased within a year of installation. Higher tiers add repair savings, faster priority and, with Premier Protection, a $125 service credit every year toward a future system. Plans start at $19.99 a month.
